Lactiplantibacillus plantarum DT22 has a narrow evidence base in the current literature, with strain-specific research limited to a single 2024 animal study examining lactic acid bacteria in the context of microplastic exposure. That study examined bacterial strains including DT22 for surface-binding interactions with polystyrene micro- and nanoplastics in vitro, and examined rodents exposed to these particles in connection with microplastic-associated gut disruption. These findings are very preliminary — confined to animal and cell-culture models — and do not establish efficacy in humans. Strain-specific probiotic characterization beyond this microplastic context has not been widely published.
