Lactobacillus helveticus NS8
Lactobacillus helveticus NS8 is a strain originally isolated from Mongolian fermented koumiss (a traditional mare's milk drink) that has attracted research interest regarding the gut-brain axis, the bidirectional communication network linking gut microbes and the nervous system. Animal studies have examined NS8 supplementation in relation to anxiety- and depression-like behaviors in rat models, gut microbiota composition, and stress hormone markers. Inflammatory pathways have also been examined in vitro and in animal colitis models. All current evidence comes from laboratory and animal research; human clinical data for this strain have not yet been published. These are research topics, not findings; the papers do not establish that this strain treats or prevents any condition.
Where it's been studied Tags come from a conservative keyword scan of each paper's title, abstract, and summary. A tag is research coverage, not measured effect. How we classify this →
