Escherichia fergusonii

◔ Human-origin
Sequenced
Public genome assembly available

Escherichia fergusonii is a species within the Escherichia genus that is phylogenetically close to E. coli but distinct, and it has been documented as an opportunistic pathogen in both animals and humans. The available research record covers its occurrence in farm animals, water and sewage environments, antibiotic resistance profiling, biofilm formation, and virulence characteristics — including iron uptake systems associated with extra-intestinal pathogenicity. It is not a recognized probiotic organism. E. fergusonii is described here in a taxonomic and epidemiological context; it has no established role in human gut health supplementation.
