Lactobacillus plantarum NCIMB 8826
Lactobacillus plantarum NCIMB 8826 is a well-characterized research strain used extensively to study how lactobacilli colonize the gut and interact with the immune system. An early human pharmacokinetic study tracked its transit through the gastrointestinal tract, and animal model research has examined gut inflammation in response to bacterial challenge. In vitro studies demonstrate it produces aggregation-promoting proteins with affinity for intestinal mucus, a mechanism relevant to colonization. In vitro immunological research has examined immune cell responses in the context of allergy; controlled human efficacy trials for specific health outcomes are lacking in the indexed literature. These are research topics, not findings; the papers do not establish that this strain treats or prevents any condition.
Where it's been studied Tags come from a conservative keyword scan of each paper's title, abstract, and summary. A tag is research coverage, not measured effect. How we classify this →
