Streptococcus salivarius K12
Streptococcus salivarius K12 is an oral probiotic strain with one of the broader clinical evidence bases in upper respiratory and oral health research. Multiple randomized controlled trials have evaluated this strain specifically, with studies examining streptococcal pharyngitis episode frequency in school-age children, oral hygiene parameters, and recurrent ear infections and PFAPA syndrome. Observational studies in pediatric populations add context, and in vitro work has examined its interactions with odor-causing and virulent oral bacteria. Evidence is most concentrated in oral and upper respiratory contexts. These are research topics, not findings; the papers do not establish that this strain treats or prevents any condition.
