Clostridium butyricum CBM588
Clostridium butyricum MIYAIRI 588 (CBM588) is a spore-forming, butyrate-producing bacterium studied in the context of gut health and, more recently, oncology. In vitro studies have characterized its butyrate production pathway and anti-inflammatory mechanisms, and animal studies have examined intestinal recovery following antibiotic use. Phase I clinical trials have examined CBM588 as an adjunct to immunotherapy regimens for metastatic renal cell carcinoma. This strain has a documented history of use as a probiotic in Japan and is taxonomically distinct from pathogenic Clostridium species. These are research topics, not findings; the papers do not establish that this strain treats or prevents any condition.
