Streptococcus thermophilus TH-4
Streptococcus thermophilus TH-4 is a dairy fermentation strain with a published record spanning animal models and human clinical trials. Animal studies have examined this strain in the context of intestinal mucositis — inflammation of the gut lining induced by chemotherapy agents including methotrexate, doxorubicin, and 5-fluorouracil. Human RCT evidence for TH-4 appears primarily in multi-strain pediatric formulations, with studies examining gut microbiota in preterm infants, cow's milk protein allergy, and antibiotic-associated microbiome changes. In vitro work has explored folate production and encapsulation methods. The animal mucositis research has not been confirmed in human trials. These are research topics, not findings; the papers do not establish that this strain treats or prevents any condition.
Where it's been studied Tags come from a conservative keyword scan of each paper's title, abstract, and summary. A tag is research coverage, not measured effect. How we classify this →
Share of this strain's 18 body-system-tagged papers that concern each system. Research coverage, not measured effect.
Symptoms in the research A tag means the paper's text names the symptom or condition — research coverage, not evidence of benefit. How we classify this →
