Limosilactobacillus fermentum CECT5716

DEP CECT5716
◔ Human-origin
Sequenced
Public genome assembly available

Limosilactobacillus fermentum CECT5716 (previously classified as Lactobacillus fermentum CECT5716) was originally isolated from human breast milk, an origin that has shaped much of the research into its applications. Human randomized controlled trials include a one-year infant formula supplementation trial and a trial examining its use in breastfeeding women in the context of mastitis prevention. Animal studies have examined this species in the context of gut inflammation, including in high-fat-diet mouse models of obesity-related gut dysbiosis, and in vitro work has characterized its immunomodulatory properties. The strain has been the subject of reviews in pediatric nutrition and is considered relatively well-characterized within the Lactobacillaceae family. These are research topics, not findings; the papers do not establish that this strain treats or prevents any condition.
