Lactobacillus gasseri PA 16/8
Lactobacillus gasseri PA 16/8 is best known as one component of the BION 3 multi-strain supplement (together with B. bifidum M 20/5 and B. longum SP 07/3). A 2005 double-blind RCT examined the combination in relation to duration of common cold episodes in healthy adults, though the study cannot distinguish the contribution of this individual strain. Reviews on respiratory immune defense have discussed this combination, and a 2012 EFSA scientific opinion examined the associated health claim but concluded the evidence was insufficient to substantiate it at the EU regulatory level. Strain-specific human evidence for PA 16/8 alone is limited; most data come from the multi-strain product context. These are research topics, not findings; the papers do not establish that this strain treats or prevents any condition.
Where it's been studied Tags come from a conservative keyword scan of each paper's title, abstract, and summary. A tag is research coverage, not measured effect. How we classify this →
Share of this strain's 7 body-system-tagged papers that concern each system. Research coverage, not measured effect.
Symptoms in the research A tag means the paper's text names the symptom or condition — research coverage, not evidence of benefit. How we classify this →
