Lactobacillus johnsonii La1
Lactobacillus johnsonii La1 (also known as NCC533) is among the more extensively studied probiotic strains, with human randomized controlled trials examining several applications. Multiple RCTs have investigated its role in relation to Helicobacter pylori colonization, and separate clinical trials have examined postoperative Crohn's disease prophylaxis. In vitro and animal work has examined antimicrobial activity against Giardia intestinalis in laboratory settings, involving bile salt hydrolases. La1 has also been studied in infant formula contexts in relation to fecal microbiota composition, and in a trial in elderly hospitalized patients examining nutritional and immune status. These are research topics, not findings; the papers do not establish that this strain treats or prevents any condition.
