Levilactobacillus brevis
Levilactobacillus brevis (formerly Lactobacillus brevis, species-level entry) is a lactic acid bacterium associated with fermented foods and studied for two principal properties: GABA (gamma-aminobutyric acid) production and antioxidant activity. GABA production during fermentation of plant-based substrates has been documented in multiple in vitro studies of various L. brevis strains, and antioxidant activity has been examined in an animal study of an L. brevis isolate. The species has also been investigated in vitro for antiviral activity against herpes simplex virus type 2 and for competitive exclusion of food pathogens. Evidence is largely strain-specific and in vitro or animal-based; human clinical evidence for this species-level entry is not available in the linked literature. These are research topics, not findings; the papers do not establish that this strain treats or prevents any condition.
