Bifidobacterium animalis
Bifidobacterium animalis (undesignated strain) is a species-level entry; most clinical evidence in the literature is concentrated in named subspecies strains such as B. animalis subsp. lactis BB-12 and BL04. RCT evidence for those named strains has examined gut microbiota composition, constipation, immune response in the context of influenza vaccination, and oral health, but attributing these study topics to an undesignated B. animalis entry is not scientifically appropriate. Probiotic research in Bifidobacterium is highly strain-specific, and a strain designation is needed to characterize evidence meaningfully. These are research topics, not findings; the papers do not establish that this strain treats or prevents any condition.
