Bifidobacterium animalis BB-12
Bifidobacterium animalis BB-12 is one of the most extensively studied Bifidobacterium strains, with a research record spanning food science, gut physiology, and clinical settings. In vitro studies have explored its behavior in fermented foods, its response to prebiotic substrates, and its role in gut barrier function, examining microbial diversity and intestinal permeability. A randomized controlled trial examined detection of BB-12 in the gastrointestinal tract of healthy volunteers following oral consumption. Preliminary animal research has examined potential interactions with neurological stress models, though those findings remain early and cannot be generalized to humans without further investigation. These are research topics, not findings; the papers do not establish that this strain treats or prevents any condition.
Where it's been studied Tags come from a conservative keyword scan of each paper's title, abstract, and summary. A tag is research coverage, not measured effect. How we classify this →
Share of this strain's 484 body-system-tagged papers that concern each system. Research coverage, not measured effect.
Symptoms in the research A tag means the paper's text names the symptom or condition — research coverage, not evidence of benefit. How we classify this →
