Bifidobacterium bifidum
Bifidobacterium bifidum is a species naturally present in the human gut, particularly abundant in breastfed infants, where it plays a role in fermenting complex carbohydrates, including human milk oligosaccharides and certain brans. Research across various B. bifidum strains includes in vitro evidence for exopolysaccharide production and mineral release from dietary fiber, and an observational study in low birth weight infants examined systemic and mucosal immune responses in relation to one strain (OLB6378). Because this index entry is at the species level rather than a specific named strain, findings vary considerably across strains and should not be generalized; strain-level evidence should be consulted for any specific health application. These are research topics, not findings; the papers do not establish that this strain treats or prevents any condition.
Where it's been studied Tags come from a conservative keyword scan of each paper's title, abstract, and summary. A tag is research coverage, not measured effect. How we classify this →
