Lactobacillus plantarum WCFS1
Lactobacillus plantarum WCFS1 is one of the most extensively characterized probiotic reference strains, with a fully sequenced and reannotated genome that has made it a workhorse for understanding how lactobacilli interact with their environment. In vitro studies have examined its stress-resistance mechanisms, including acid tolerance, oxidative stress management, and protein glycosylation, as well as its capacity to produce enzymes that deglycosylate dietary flavonoids such as rutin and naringin. More recent laboratory research has examined WCFS1 embedded in pectin-based encapsulation systems in relation to gut epithelial wound healing in cell culture models; these findings are preliminary and have not been evaluated in human studies. These are research topics, not findings; the papers do not establish that this strain treats or prevents any condition.
Where it's been studied Tags come from a conservative keyword scan of each paper's title, abstract, and summary. A tag is research coverage, not measured effect. How we classify this →
Share of this strain's 170 body-system-tagged papers that concern each system. Research coverage, not measured effect.
Symptoms in the research A tag means the paper's text names the symptom or condition — research coverage, not evidence of benefit. How we classify this →
