Bifidobacterium breve
Bifidobacterium breve is a species commonly found in the human gut, particularly in breastfed infants, where it plays a role in fermenting complex carbohydrates including human milk oligosaccharides. Research across multiple B. breve strains has examined metabolism of prebiotic substrates, production of short-chain fatty acids, and immune modulation in animal models. A small early randomized trial examined this strain in the context of Campylobacter enteritis, and in vitro work has characterized metabolic and epithelial cell interactions. Because this index entry is at the species level rather than a specific strain, findings vary considerably across strains and should not be generalized without strain-specific data. These are research topics, not findings; the papers do not establish that this strain treats or prevents any condition.
